Mallakhamb is a sport that offers a spliced variety of elements from different athletic mediums: gymnastics, yoga, and also…..pole dancing? That’s right, considered primarily as a traditional form of Indian gymnastics, this impressive sport is also known as its own brand of pole dancing. While the more contemporarily known form of it is mostly associated with female athletes, this offshoot is famous for only having men partake in Mallakhamb (although women have their own kind of Mallakhamb known as ‘Rope Mallakhamb’). While it may seem life threatening at first sight for those who do Mallakhamb; with proper practice and execution, one is more than able to succeed in becoming a pro—with some players starting as young as 7 years old.
